A Recent Image

Sometimes in my line of work I get to see species that simply blow you away.  The Resplendent Quetzal has always done that but this particular morning in Costa Rica last month did so in spades.  The light just fell right at the same time as his presence to make him even more inspiring than usual.  Given that he’s contending with toucans, humming birds and the equally exotically named Montezuma’s Oropendola to provoke this response says it all that on my return this was the first image that I had to check out and share. I’ve alway felt that a close look at his head answers clues to the origin of Keith Harris’ Orville from back in the day too but for now it’s the combination of iridescence and incredible tail feathers that provide the stand out features that blew me away once again.

Wild Islands: The Nature of the Falklands

Wild Islands: the Nature of the Falklands is my latest book project. It has been produced as a collaborative project with Falklands Conservation and they will earn a royalty for every copy sold.

From dramatic cliffs crammed with albatross nests, to remote sandy beaches that greet a returning penguin to their shores, the nature of the Falklands is that of diverse and truly wild islands. Renowned professional wildlife photographer Mark Sisson fell in love with them and their inestimable wildlife when first visiting almost a decade ago and has explored them ever since, looking to capture those special visual moments that portray their soul. These images and the accompanying stories behind them will take you on and maybe even prepare you for your own journey of discovery here, in a body of work that will also support the key endeavours of ensuring their future through Falklands Conservation.

“Mark’s collection has shown precisely what the Falklands has to offer but also what it has to lose: the stories he tells through painstaking hours of photography is far better than all the words we can write about the place.” Esther Bertram: CEO Falklands Conservation

It was a project almost a decade in the making and I deliberately kept almost all of the images in the book out of the public domain so it’s all new content and a body of work I am particularly proud of too.

I have a big programme of talks over the coming months which you’ll find on the talks and events page, but if you can’t make any of these, other than in the islands themselves you can only buy the book exclusively from me direct on this website – just click on the store link below.

A bit about me...

I’ve been a professional wildlife photographer from my home base in Shropshire, UK, for the last 20 or so years now and still consider it the best job in the world having turned what was my hobby into my job at that point in life. This 2021 update of my personal website is but a small reflection of the experiences I have been fortunate to witness and images I’ve taken away from them over the years: now to get stuck into the massive back catalogue and share even more!

Holidays and Workshops

Natures Images is one of the largest wildlife photography tour operators in Europe and I have co-owned and run this business since it started back in 2008. We have a full and varied programme of short breaks, longer holidays and one-day workshops across the UK, Europe and the rest of the world, and you can find more details about both of them here.

Galleries and Prints

It’s been a privilege to work photographically in as much of the world as I have been able to,  and the galleries on this website are a small selection of some of my favourite images that I have taken throughout this journey.

There are an array of different collections of images behind each of these sample images so do take time to browse and hopefully enjoy.

All the images are available as limited edition prints as well.

Talks and events

Like most photographers, I love sharing my work, talking about my travels and photography as well as passing on some of my experience too.  I have an array of audio visual presentations for camera clubs natural history or RSPB  group meetings, and online webinar or conference events. Details of my up and coming schedule as well as the presentations themselves can be found here.

I work with and for an array of different organisations in terms of guiding, marketing my images and writing features including the following key affiliates…
