I was fortunate enough to spend a few days this month camping on an island where there was a healthy seabird population, including these magnificently attractive gannets, just at the time when they were pairing up and nest-building. Intimate behaviour such as grooming was typical, as was aggressive spats over nest-space, but their sumptuous colours were prevalent all the time.
