It's proved quite a challenge to select a favourite image this month, but in the end the brief amount of time we get to photograph summer migrants such as this Common Redstart and the fact that this year I was able to do so in a wonderfully open setting rather than deep in shady woodland, just tipped the balance: that and his stunning colours! He was a hard working Dad too, returning every 20 minutes or so with a big fat juicy grub or collection of insects for the noisy and hungry mouths inside the nest hole, although on the grounds of equality Mum was just as regular a visitor.
